Khajrana Ganesh Mandir is a famous Hindu pilgrimage site in the Khajrana area, about 5 km from Indore Junction in Madhya Pradesh. It is one of the most popular temples in Indore.
“The temple is dedicated to Lord Shri Ganesha and was built in 1735 by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar. She found an idol of Lord Ganesha, which was hidden in a well to save it from the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. People believe that wishes made in this temple are fulfilled quickly, making it a famous place of worship.”
Originally a small hut, the temple has now grown into a large structure, with inner and outer sanctums. The main idol is made of bricks, jaggery, limestone, clay and water. The doors and walls of the sanctum sanctorum are silver and the eyes of the deity are adorned with diamonds donated by a local businessman. There are also other temples dedicated to deities such as Shanidev, Sai Baba, Bherav Baba and Bholenath. The temple is managed by the District Magistrate of Indore.
The temple regularly receives donations of money, gold and jewels and is famous in India and abroad. The nearby Nahar Syed Dargah further adds to the sacred atmosphere of the area. Vinayaka Chaturthi, celebrated every August or September, is the main festival of the temple.
